So here's the timeline...
All 3 halides on a powerstrip plugged into an outlet on the reef keeper lite...lasted three days then after being on for 15 mins it would blow the breaker on the reefkeeper powerstrip so I did some reading and found that the outlets were only rated at 8 Amps a piece so....
I left 2 on the power strip to one outlet and ran a cord to the 3rd and plugged into a different outlet on the reefkeeper but the same pc4...lasted a week then it started blowing the pc4 breaker again...according to the display that strip was only drawing 10 amps with all 3 lights on..much less than the 15 amp rating on the breaker
I have since moved the halide that's plugged in by itself to a different pc4...lasted 3 days and now the 2 that are plugged in to the power strip together then to the pc4 just shut off but the breaker on that pc4 did not blow just the outlet shut off for 15 mins and they just restarted as I'm typing
Soooo....can I not plug halides into the reefkeeper or do I need to run a separate cord to each light individually or what?? I'm certainly not overloading the 8 amp limit on the outlet of the pc4
I did a couple days ago move the fan that was over my sump in the basement to over the tank upstairs and I noticed that the pc4 that the power strip with the 2 halides plugged in was a little warm when they shut off...not hot by any means I could easily hold my hand on it but...
Could it be overheating???
Is it just too much draw on one outlet??
I did just move the fan back down there which points at the pc4s so hopefully that will help for now until I figure this out but please offer any advice you have as I'm tired of my halides going off and on and I don't want to have to worry about them if I'm not here!!
Btw they are 400 watt reeflux 12ks on vertex ballasts in lumenbright 3 reflectors
Thanks!!
