Poor Mans Refugium Help

Hoping I can get some help on a HOB refugium. I just removed my HOB Emperor 280 filter and figured I would throw a refugium back there. Was looking to spend as least money as possible.



I am running a 29 gallon tank with live rock, 2 power heads, a in tank protein skimmer and 2 power heads.



Below are the items I just ordered from Amazon. Will these items be good to setup a working refugium spending the least money possible?

My next questions is what do I put in it and where do I buy it? I know people put some type of plant in it, but where does one purchase that and what is the best type to put in it?



Also, I see people add a deep sand bed. Can I just take the sand out I have in my main tank and add in there? I have been slowly siphoning sand out of my tank as I like the idea of having very little sand after continuing to read it is more for show and traps a lot of garbage in it. I was always under the impression it housed a lot of beneficial bacteria but that seems to be not true.



So any help or guidance as far as if this will work well and what else I will need to buy without spending much more money. Also open to other suggestions if anyone has any.
