I'm designing my return pump system and I'm planning on putting a Y fitting on it to divert some water back to the sump. I'd use a ball valve to control how much is diverted. This way I can control the flow to the tank without adding pressure to the pump.
I thought of turning this "release valve" of sorts in to a useful tool. I would attach a flexible hose to the Y with a ball valve at the end followed by length of rigid tube. I would have this "hang" in the sump area with the rigid tube attached and going under the water line of the sump. Then when I want to spray off my rocks, I could take it out, open the ball valve, and use the rigid tube as an automatic turkey baster.
Has anyone done this before? See any problems with it?
