Lighting System for reef tank

Just brought a 48 inch snakeeye LED lights for my reef tank. There is a plexiglass covering the LED lights should I remove it? The lights will be stronger if it's remove but I am sure there is a reason why they put it there. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks!
