I'm in the process of building my 90 gallon tank. I'm new to all of this. I've read up on reefkeeping made easy. I will have a low sand or crushed coral on the bottom. I'm considering raising the live rock a bit with pvc. I really want a Mandarin eventually.
That being said I will need some sand. I'm not sure crushed coral is a good substrate for them but it is more easily vacuumed. But I also want flow at the lower part of the tank.
Would a lower flow powerhead placed low in the tank toward the back of the rock be a good idea. Perhaps a nano 240 or 425? I'm planning on 2 1150 gph heads in the top corners positioned for turbulent flow. Any suggestions appreciated, including on the mandarin substrate.
