Hello guys!
I figured I would go ahead and join and quit lurking... you guys have helped me out so much without even knowing it!
I have used this site many times to learn about animals and ID them.
I have been working as a educator at a public aquarium here in NC since this past Feb. We are a new facility so there are new animals coming all the time.
We were chosen more for our personalities and willingness to learn over raw knowledge of animals, so learning all the species has been a challenge to say the least.
We have 150,000 gallons on site and roughly 5,000 animals. Our biggest tank is 117,000 gallons. One of the coolest things is seeing our aquarists dive in the tanks to clean.
We have many many species, but off the top of my head I will say... six blacknosed sharks, one bonnethead shark, several cownose rays, one black-tipped reef shark, one nurse shark, southern and Atlantic stingrays, yellow stingrays, a Giant Pacific octopus, spiny lobsters, green Moray eels, lined seahorses, potbellied seahorses, horseshoe crabs, and my favorite...the slipper lobsters.
I do try and grab more experienced members of my team and the aquarists (but they are very busy!) to ID, but for some of them, your help would always be appreciated!
I also enjoy reading your posts about your systems and all the species you care for!
At home, I've got... one huge brine shrimp/Sea Monkey and that's it! (In a tank, anyway!) But I have had freshwater fish my whole childhood. Never had the money or time for salt.
