Rockscape-Need help please

Now that my algae is under control, I can finally see all the awesome colors of the coraline algae that has grown on my rocks. Now here is where I need help.

I am not a very artistic person and can't get my rockscape to look good. I see pics of all these marine tanks that have beautiful rockscapes and I don't know where to start to get mine like that. I have already redone the rocks twice. Is there a pattern that people follow or general rules for creating a good looking rockscape? When I did my rocks, I kept room on all sides for ease of cleaning, but looking at other tanks this doesn't seem to be a "must do" when placing rocks. The last time I redid the rocks, I broke up some of the larger ones to try and make a better fit....and I'm still not happy with the results.

If I decide to redo mine again, what is the longest I can keep the rocks out of the water before I see die off of the bacteria? My tank is FOWLR and I think the best thing for me to do, if I try this again, is to map out my tank dimensions on a table and try to create the scape out of the tank then reassemble the rocks back in the tank.

Please any help or artistic input will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I'll post a pic later today of my current setup if it will help with some artistic suggestions. I eventually want to add corals but not until I get everything to where it looks perfect.
