I started my tank in March, and ever since then I'd had increasingly huge problems with cyano. It finally got to the extreme end and I had to take action, so I treated with Chemiclean. It did work and the Cyano is gone - but, that immediately started a huge bloom of green hair algae. I figure by eliminating the Cyano competition I gave it a chance to thrive.
I have tried all kinds of different filter media in the basket and none of it seems to do any good. The skimmer pulls out a lot of almost-clear water lately (at first it pulled out just a small amount of brown water). I tried brushing and pulling the algae off the rock but it is stubborn. Tried turning off all lights except nite lite for 36 hours, no difference.
What would you do? Just measured my PO4 at 0.80 which is a bit of a spike to what I've seen. I have been changing water about weekly and will be doing another change soon.
Edit: Since someone will ask - I use a Coralife RO/DI (no filters replaced since March, but I haven't noticed any reduced flow) and Reef Crystals for water changes.
