My Sump Adventure

Hey guys! So, as most of you know I have a Fluval 406 that I clean every single freakin day, so I got annoyed and I wanted to build a sump/ref. So, my friend had some tempered aquarium glass left over so I built a 55 gallon tank and converted it into a sump. I am not finished, just starting this post to document my progress but I just finished installing the baffles earlier this morning. I have a Jebao 6000 DC pump for the return and putting Chaeto in the middle ref chamber. Keep in mind I really didn't care about being pretty, I just wanted it functional and watertight. I used florescent lighting grate to build to media basket and glass baffles I cut myself. I am working on the plumbing as we speak but the sump is going to be where it is in the picture, my bathroom lol. My tank is against the wall of my bedroom which shares a wall with the bathroom and I am running the plumbing through the wall into the bathroom. In my apartment, I have a huge bathroom and it is far away from everything and is going to be protected still. It's right next to my RO/DI system and holding tanks, and with the tub being in there, it's going to be a lot easier to do what I gotta do. So my DT is 100gal and now the sump is 55gal which should increase water volume about 30 gals, maybe more. The intake will be siphon fed with a siphon break hole right under the water level. I'm just happy for my little guys and can't wait to see the benefits of having a sump instead of this stupid nitrate factory canister filter. I'll keep the canister for occasional water polishing. Anyways, check it out. It's a very simple design but it's my first build. Can't wait to see it in action.
