I have a 75g I am setting up. I will be building the lights myself so the sky is the limit. I want to be able to put anything in the tank (sps, lps, softies, etc) not necessarily all at the same time. I just don't want to spend the money to build it to then be limited later. I will be using 3w LEDs. What I am most concerned about is what all colors should I include and roughly what proportions. I will have each color dimmable so exact proportions isn't required but close prevents me from using too many of one and not having space for others. The tank is the typical 48" 75g. I bought the tank used and it came with a coralife 4 x t5 x 48" vho light kit. It's ok but not very versatile and lacks shimmer.
So the questions are:
1. Colors.
2. Wattage of each color.
3. Maybe pattern for colors.
If I need to put more 10k in back over the rock and 20k over bare sand in the front (example) please give advise.
Lighting can be a heated topic so please keep it friendly and give your opinion and don't bash anyone elses opinion. I will sift through all the opinions and make up my mind. Don't assume that I haven't done any reading and research of my own. I have. There is an insane amount of information. It's hard to apply it all and there are so many different opinions. I do not have the cash for a par meter so I will have to listen to the inhabitants when I kick this thing on (slowly). I have a homemade 45w (3w x 15) LED setup over my 10g nano and everything is happy with it running about 60% brightness.
