Triumph over a mithrax

I had my mithrax crab for several months, a small female red version. In the 5 gallon she was fine and stayed away from the corals. Put her into a 10 gallon that was new with limited algae. But I made sure to feed her at least 1-2 times per day with her favorite large pellets, easily enough for the day.

Yesterday I saw her pinching and pulling out the side of an acan. I saw the flesh tear and it was not about algae. After sticking in a tweezer to scare her away, that didn't happen again but I thought this was a bad sign and that the next day I'd out her. I have just a cleaner shrimp and baby ocellaris clownfish that was happy in there. I come back a few hours after the lights were out and the clown is in the sand, dead, with what looks like a small chunk taken out of the middle. Cleaners can't do that and neither can the tiny, slow scarlet red pair that I have in the tank. That convinced me that my very strong and increasingly smart mithrax had to go.

These little things are very smart. They don't fall for the same tricks twice. I was dreading taking apart my aquascaping as getting it together again can be very tough. Fortunately after removing one rock I noticed she happened to have gone back to her favorite rock, hovering in her hole. I took the big net, slowly picked up the rock and quickly dropped it in the net. She was **** surprised and stunned until the rock came out of the water and she was panicking. Dumped her into the bucket with water I just removed and replaced the rock, close to where I was before. She was so interesting and fascinating to watch. But unless you've got at least a 20G and probably more, these little buggers appear to be very territorial and will grab at anything that gets near them for the sake of doing so. For some reason it never bothered my cleaner shrimp... anyway... I needed to tell the tale of my outsmarting this bugger. Many of you know the triumph.
