Hello.
I have this 90 gallons reef tank and I am considering upgrading to about 240 display tank plus sump.
I have this niche in the finished basement room, which was used for a TV, but I am thinking of building plywood tank there, which would completely fill the niche with it. The dimensions are such that if the tank is 24" tall, it will hold about 240 gallons.
The niche is 72" wide and 39" deep.
This finished room is only part of the otherwise unfinished basement, so I can put all the equipment in the rough part of the basement behind the wall of the room, so it will all play nicely. And of course since the tank will sit directly on the floor, which is concrete foundation, I do not have to worry about reinforcements.
My concerns are two (at least for now):
1. Water changes. How much water do I actually need to change in such a system ? Currently I have 90 gallons display plus sump, so total volume is about 110 gallons and I change 5 gallons a week or something like that. Would it be sufficient to change 5% a week in the bigger system ?
2. Currently I am dosing 2 part. Can I continue doing that in the bigger system or I will have to use calcium reactor and kalk dosing?
What else should I worry about considering this upgrade ?
Thanks for your advice.
Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention. I plan to have mostly SPS, but some LPS, anemones and softies too.
