Thinking about a 75 gallon FOWLR

My daughter woke up the other day and asked why we can't have Nemo, and Dori in our fish tank, and I explained to her why...but then I got to thinking...why not?

Right now I'm in the world of Cichlids. I'm slowly selling off my stock of Cichlids, to make way for a breeding set of Cichlids, but I've always, long wanted to do a saltwater setup. Before I would even venture down that road, I wanted to make sure I learned and could take care of a freshwater tank first and foremost. My tank has been setup and running for almost a year, no illnesses whatsoever, and 2 fish deaths for whatever reason (pretty sure both were due to aggression). Tank is fully cycled, and I do 30% water changes every other week (right now only 5-6 fish in there, which are fed every other, every 3rd day). I do have a problem with brown algae on the glass, but that may be due to the Foyer Window.

Anyhows, I know that if I would eventually move to a FOWLR setup, I probably will end up doing an hangon overflow into a wet/dry setup in the bottom of the tank with a return pump in the area of 800gph. From what I have read, those bioballs in the wetdry aren't necessary, so I could possibly take half of them out, and then throw a Skimmer in the part with the return pump (not sure how all that gets hooked up, but I'll learn about that).

I know that my HOB and canister filters are pretty much useless with a saltwater setup as they would just become a phosphate *****-house.

Could I use a heater in my wet/dry?

Also, I'm used to having 16-20 fish in my 75 gallon, and from what I've ready that's not optimal with saltwater (or many other freshwater setups)...what would be a good, colorful, peaceful stocking list for a 75G?

Not sure I really want a whole lot of aggression, as it tends to stress out other fish, and I want them to be colorful, active, and very stress free.

I was thinking about 8-10 fish (too many?). Yellows, Blues, Reds...colorful!
