I know this topic has probably been beat to death a few times but I'm looking for opinions on using a bio-wheel in my sump in an established reef system. Here are the system specs:
120gal tank with sump(3 trays and large bio-wheel)
SWC 160 Skimmer
Phosban and Purigen each in their own reactor
Aqualight T5 8x48"
The tank is set up with a happy mix of hard and soft corals with lots of LR. The tank has been running for many years. When I originally set up I was told by my LFS to use the biowheel.
Ive been fighting Nitrates and Ammonia for the last few months, my last tests today were ammonia 0.10ppm and nitrates 10ppm, otherwise everything else is within normal limits. I have been researching different ways of exporting nitrates such as using a refugium or bio-pellets, it just recently occurred to me that perhaps I should reconsider my choice of using the bio-wheel. Any thoughts?
