Questions about 1) RODI Unit 2) pH and 3) Water Evaporation

Hello everyone,

I've got 2 questions, any help is greatly appreciated. Going to spend some time reviewing old posts after I post this, I'm sure there must be info on the topics in here somewhere.

1. RODI Unit. I purchased an AQUA FX Barracuda 50GPD unit, have been using it for about a month now. Water temp through the unit is avg. 73 F. PSI average is 60. I've been keeping track of the "good" vs "reject" water coming out, and think the numbers are a bit extreme. For ever "good" 80 liters of water I get out, I have 700 liters of reject water. Is this normal? If no, what can/should I be checking?

2. I consistently struggle with maintaining a pH level above 8.0. I'm currently cycling a new system, 75G and been up 3 weeks. pH levels after salt mixed and running a few days was about 8.3. Now, after 3 weeks - pH levels are 7.8. Granted, I have yet to do a water change (only top offs) - so is it possible that this fresh RODI water that I've been replacing is in fact lowering the pH? I've had these issues with a nano, but figured with a larger system and sump that this would be more easily managed/maintained. Suggestions/thoughts?

3. As mentioned above, I've run a nano (closed system) and had very little water evaporation. With the open top 75G, i'm averaging 4 liters of water evaporation a day. Is there anything that I can do to cut this back a bit? ie. enclose the top of the display tank? Problem here though, I would assume, would be heat build up. Is it best (for the system) to just top off every day or two (8 liters RODI every 2 days)....vs. enclosing the top partially? Isn't 4 liters a day on the high side???

Thanks everyone,

D
