Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time poster. I have wanted to maintain a Lionfish tank (Volitan) for some time now. Something about the appearance and grace of this fish mesmerizes me. However, this is my first delve into the salt realm after many successful freshwater ventures (for both myself and friends I have helped) and after my current deployment I will finally have some much deserved time and money to pursue this goal. I plan on setting up a 125-150gallon tank with sump/refugium for this project but, despite a god deal of research, I am still confused on some things, which I will try to present in some sort of order. -I Plan on using live rock and sand in both the tank and refugium. Good Idea? -As this is my first "reef" set up, will I require more than one overflow box for this size aquarium? Or does that depends on how fast my return pump, well, pumps. -I would like to house soft corals in the tank but have read Lionfish do not like strong currents due to their delicate fins. The last thing I want is this beautiful fish hiding in a no current cave to avoid his surroundings. Will the current generated from the return to the tank and the exiting of the overflow be enough to transport nutrients to my corals? or will I need some power-heads? ...if so, how can I adjust them to not interfere with my Lionfish? -The "Clean Up Crew" or CuC (as I try to sound hip ) I was going to incorporate was those snails that burrow in sand and pop up to eat scraps, a larger crab and a non-destructive sea star? Is that copacetic? Thank you all in advance and would totally appreciate any advice, as it is hard to browse the internet on a ship. Happy aquariuming! (?)
