BB and burrowing animals

I have a bit of dilema. I like the theory behind and easy maintenance of a BB tank but I really like burrowing animals. I know that jawfish do not accept pre-made burrows but that shrimp gobies (and their shrimp partners) do accept them. Could I use a FSB (like the one in this link http://ift.tt/1SgUUMX ) but have it dried with pre-built tunnels (made out of pvc pipes) to give the burrowing animals a place to live.
