cycling params

hey guys not sure if there is another thread out there for this. just wondering what is normal levels during cycle. my ammonia spiked to 8+ then a few days later dropped down to about 2. once I saw that I measured nitrites and they rose to about .5. How high should nitrites go before they start tapering off and I see nitrate?
