Mounting lights with no canopy

Hi there I'm new to these forums. My wife and I started a 30g saltwater tank. Both of us are new to this hobby. So right now we have a versa top with a t-8 fluorescent light over it. We just purchased a Full Spectrum 165W Dimmable LED Aquarium Grow Light FishTank Reef Coral LPS SPS. We don't have a canopy and thought about building one but are there mounts so I can keep it open or can I just put those new lights on top of the glass or would that be too close? Or should I just build a canopy to fit over it? Don't be me up too bad on this as we are only 1 month into this hobby! Any suggestions would be appreciated 😃.
