38 Gal Newbie

Hi everyone, I just bought my first SW tank 38 G.. I have added 40lbs of LS it is about 2 inches thick, I was hoping for a DSB so I have Iam ordering 40lbs more of LS, 40 lbs of BR and 10lbs of LR to seed it.. or will the LS seed the base rock and just get that instead as it is a lot cheaper? Any advice?

Also should I be testing my water daily while it is cyclig and keeping a log or just once every few days or once a week?

What tests should i be doing and when?
