Saving a Sea Urchin (please help)

Hey guys, I'm new to salt water tanks, I've had fresh water tanks for a few years now. I'm an animal science (pre-vet) student.

Well long story short. In my reproduction physiology class, we collected semen and eggs from urchins, and then were suppose to dissect them while they were alive. Well I refused, and took the little guy home. I contacted a friend who has a huge reef tank, he's been trying to teach me.

The urchin had been in a small transport bag for 2 days before I got him, and then a day after I got him home. He had a bubbler for most of the time while in the bag.

I'm on a limited budget so I used an empty 10g, bought Carib sea live sand, 7 lbs of live rock, bought a power head, heater,API test kit, hydrometer and established salt water from a LFS that was an hour away.

He seems to be doing better, last night he climbed on top of the rock and has been slowly moving aeound on the rock, but he is losing spines :(

The temperature is 72 F

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 0

pH 7.9

Salinity 1.024

I tried to switch him slowly last night, added a few (5mls) to his bag at a time, then I floated him from a while and then I switched him.

So far no one has been able to identify his species, I don't know what his needs are exactly what he needs
