Is a tank in the kitchen a bad idea?

I've heard some say on here that a tank in the kitchen has be be wary of certain foods cooked. I set up my tank in my dinning room which is directly next to my kitchen without giving what we cook a second thought. My question is... Was that a horrible move on my part or does it really matter that much?
