Well, after I apparently aquired velvet in my tank and losing both a McCosker's wrasse and a yellow tang I decided it's time for meds to come into the picture. I pulled the live rock and substrate and am treating the tank with copper. My question is what's the best way to kill the velvet on the live rock?
I thought of 3 different courses of action so far and am currently just drying it out. I don't really care about saving anything on it since it's just cycled rock that hasn't been seeded with any sort of life other than bacteria.
1. Drying it out - With velvet I am not sure how effective this will be in killing it while it's in it's tomont stage.
2. Baking the rock - Heat kills it and the rock was never exposed to any sort f coral so the risk for poison gas is non existent. This is actually what I'm leaning towards right now.
3 - Bleach soak - I know the pH of bleach is around 12. Would that damage the live rock in any way?
Does anyone have any insight or thoughts to throw my way?
