So I need to vent. A lot.
About 3 weeks ago I went on vacation for two weeks. I didn't have time to change the water on my reef before I left so I asked my LFS manager if he could come out and do it. He's done it before and all has gone well. So he comes, changes the water, and leaves. I came home 4 days after he came. I come back to a tank with half the corals dead, the entire rock scape moved, and a missing fish. My mom was home while I was gone and had been feeding the fish. I asked if she had touched the tank besides feeding and she said no.
So basically the manager came over, moved everything to do a "deep clean" and then didn't put anything back. I found my favorite coral, a 25 head hammer, upside down on a rock. It appears to have succumbed to brown jelly disease and there are only 4 heads remaining, but I doubt they'll survive. My second favorite coral, a 7" kenya tree, was in a hole blocked from all light and decaying in the tank. I tried to frag what I could but the frags continued to decay over the next two days. All my xenia disappeared and so did both of my orange ricordea. 3/5 gorgonians have necrotized near their bases and it seems to be spreading upwards. My plate coral is half dead and has algae growing on it. My yellow watchman goby has been MIA for over a week and a half and his pistol shrimp is now only seen alone, so not much hope there.
I estimate the total loss to be at least $300, plus the fact that my tank is ruined and I'm completely crushed.
Still haven't decided whether or not to go raise hell in his store or not. I know I'm never giving him another cent, just trying to decide whether or not to ask him ever so kindly to replace everything that was killed.
I included a before and after photo for fun... The before is from a while ago but not much changed except massive coral growth. The after was from today, and surprisingly looks the best it has since I came home.
