New To Marine Hobby!

Hello! I'm just now getting into the marine hobby and would like to try and expand my knowledge and learn as much as possible from other people’s experiences. Below I will have the equipment I have, will be getting, and also what i would like to stock the tank with.

Equipment that I have:

  • 55g aquarium (48x13x20)
  • Adjustable heater (set at 78-79)
  • Thermometer
  • Cascade 1000 canister filter
  • Penguin 350 HOB filter (removed bio-wheels and filled both sides with live rock rubble)
  • Eshopps HOB psk100 (protein skimmer)
  • 2x Hydor 1150 circulation pumps
  • RO/DI system
  • Refractometer
  • API Saltwater Test Kit
  • 4x 7g jugs for top-offs and water changes
  • Large substrate vacuum
  • Syringe for feeding purposes (frozen foods, etc…)
  • Green 5g bucket with air pump and air stone for refugium purposes (copopods)
  • 80lbs of Bimini Pink Sand substrate (Going to sift the sand of all the large shells and rocks before Goby goes in)
Equipment that I will be receiving before stocking:
  • 2x Marine orbit pro (48"-60")
  • 50-60lbs of live rock
  • 20 more lbs of a live sand (don’t know which type yet)

What I currently am going to stock when the time comes:
1x Diamond Watchman Goby
1x Green Mandarin Dragonet (male/female, opposite of Red)
1x Red Mandarin Dragonet (male/female, opposite of Green)

Additional things I would like to stock:
  • · Green Star Pollup
  • · 1x Blue Tuxedo Urchin
  • · 1x Tridacna Clam (don’t know specific species yet)
  • · 1x Niger Trigger
  • OR (would like opinions on these)
  • · 1x Huma Huma/Picasso Trigger

Well there is my list. The tank is currently running with the 80lbs of bimini pink sand and about 6-9lbs of live rock rubble in the HOB filter. Going to try and get all the live rock in soon, so that the cycling process can start up and catch up before I even start to stock with fish. So now I’m looking for people’s opinions on my setup and opinions on whether or not I can put any of the additional fish/coral into this setup. I’m really excited to get started since I knowing that this process is a slow one.
