I really want to graduate to a larger type of saltwater aquarium, I have been "reefing" for a while (I have not been able to successfully care for any corals other than mushrooms) (Thats ok though, Im not a big fan of coral). Anyways I breed cockatiels, and, counting my eggs before they hatch, I plan on having a revenue of around $400 within the next 6 months. I plan on putting most of this toward the tank (off of craigslist), but I always love planning out tanks and making shopping carts (especially from Blue Zoo Aquatics, they are the best). I have been working on some plans for the 100 gallon I plan to buy, I've got some ideas, but I am not positive it will work, I am also open to other ideas. So far I have:
1. Yellowhead Eel (an absolute must, Gymnothorax are maybe my favorite fish) (this will be the centerpiece of the tank)
2. An arrow crab (preferably a big one so that #1 doesn't eat it)
3. 10 hermits
4. 2 Emerald Crabs (most effective cleaner in my opinion)
5. Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp (hoping he will clean the moray)
6. 3 turbo snails
7. 2 Cuttlefish (I'm not sure of the compatibility of these, but cephalopods are my favorite creatures)(I'm pretty sure they would try to eat the inverts, but again, not positive)
8. I want some excited fish too, some mid level swimmers, must be big enough so that my lovely eel won't devour them (easily ha ha ha).
Ideas on setup:
I want a large rock pile, contained near the right side of the tank. On the left it will have a clustering of small rocks yielding to a large macro algae flat, the right will be much smaller, and will have some rock clustering and then free space.
Additional Notes: I love my macroalgae, I have a massive crop of Caulerpa Prolifera in my 20 gallon "reef," I want to move a good part of it to this tank when it is done cycling. The small fish (like my royal gramma) love it, so I think the eel and cuttlefish will too.
Additional Notes 2: One of my favorite shrimp, the pistol shrimp is a big no no, I already have one and he is a menace. He lives in my 20 gallon reef, and while usually quiet during the day, is very loud at night. He has killed both a blue cleaner wrasse and one of my clownfish (I had a pair too).
