Hello TRT,
I have had my 90 gal mixed reef tank with a handful of sps and lps frags setup for about 11 months now and can't seem to get rid of the green algae growing on my glass. Phosphate is reading zero on Salifert test kits but I know I have PO4 as I have to clean my glass about twice a week.
I feed every other day and only about a 1/2 inch cube of raw frozen seafood that I made myself using a mix of shrimp, oysters, clams, squid, octopus, salmon roe, and some nori. I have 2 chromis, 1 scribbled rabbit, 1 yellow tang, 1 blue hippo tang, and 1 Royal gramma. A mix of snails, crabs, and 2 shrimp as well complete my tank inhabitants.
I do 30-35% monthly water changes with RODI water and TDS reading of zero. I use Red Sea Coral Pro salt mix. I have a sump with about 15 gals of water running through it and a skimmer pulling out skimmate that I dump once a week. My sump has a section where I have chaeto tumbling but down not grow...i have the the sump light on over night when the DT lights are off. Using a 6500K spiral bulb with a clamp that I got from Home Depot.
My DT lights are less than a year old and are 2 X AI Hydra 52's that I leave on 60% strength from 9 am to 6 pm with a 1 hr ramp up/down time.
I am also running carbon and GFO that I swap out monthly and still no luck with reducing the algae! Only additive I am dosing is Kalkwasser as I'm trying to keep PH a little highe...
Water Parameters:
Temp: 79 degrees
Salinity: 1.026 or 35 ppt
PH: 7.9 to 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10-15 ppm
Phosphate: 0 (but I know that's not correct as algae on glass is using it up)
Ca: 460 ppm
Alk: 14 dKH (high due to Red Sea Coral Pro salt)
Mg: 1480 ppm
Not sure if I missed anything so please let me know if I did.
Any advice from the TRT community to help get me on track to get rid of this Algae issue???
