I am new to REEF Tank and found out today I have Aptesia! Now what?

I thought they look good and I was growing new corals!! I was told to get rid of them. I heard all kinds of ways to kill them. Is cutting them off the rock work> or am I better with a bunch of peppermint shrimp?
