So I have had a 40g tank sitting in the closet for the past year.......
I decided I was time to upgrade the 34g tank.....
I also wanted to get a separate frag tank added to my current system......
So 2 weeks ago......
I stated to shop around for some Glass/Acrylic to make a frag tank.
I ordered some bulkheads and 2 glass drill bits
Then something unexpected happened. A local reefer decided to take a brake. Sold off $10,000+ in corals and then sold his equipment. I saw that he had some frag tanks listed so sent him a pm on one. So I picked up a 24x24x10 frag tank.
Then I took a second look at his listing. GLA 165 Tank Stand 90 sump, and I thought to my self hmmmm, Its not a 180g tank but how big is it. Looked up the 165 and my jaw dropped it was a 72x24x22 inch tank.
Needless to say I am the proud new owner of my dream size tank. We tanking about a 6x2 foot beauty.

So this weekend I will be taking down the old 34g tank and then setting up the 165 in its place.
I will be moving my equipment over to the new system.
So I have to clean the tank.
Make some changes to the stand
Option 1
Or Option 2
Needless to say I'm leaning towards option 2
I could keep the 90 Gal Sump or down size it to a 40G Sump and then sell off or give away the 90. I don't see the advantage in a large sump, Plus I will need the space for the setting tank I will be buying.
Then on one side of the stand I will place an ATO storage tank, and any other external equipment and have a true power distribution area.
Will cover the back of the stand with something to make it sound proof. I'm thinking about what Future Doc did for his stand after he moved.
The following week I will start to work on a hood for the stand.

- 1 Kessils a360w >> Will need to by 1-2 more
- Jebao DC6000 >> Will be upgraded to a DC12000
- 2 Jebao WP-25 + 1 jebao RW-8 >> May add more....
- Apex Controler
- 5g ATO system
So I have to clean the tank.
Make some changes to the stand
Option 1
- I will eather keep the stand as it is and
- Paint Inside to help make it more water proof.
- Replace rusty hinges
- Then pick up a 2x6 sheet of plywood paint it black and put it between the stand and the tank.
Or Option 2
- I could build a 2x4 Frame then use parts of the existing tank stand to skin the stand ^^.
- This would let me have full access and remove the sump if needed.
Needless to say I'm leaning towards option 2
