The "I have 1 Aiptasia, should I leave it" thread.

Well, Ive seen a few threads here and there stating "I have 1 Aiptasia, should I leave it alone or kill it?" Well, I used to be that person. I couldnt grow coral for the life of me, Kenya died after a month, Candy cane, pulsing Xenia, Brains, polyps...yeah I tried em all and finally gave up until I could get my system back on track. Got some Evergrow LED Lights and gave up my Kessils, went full RO/DI instead of my 650 TDS well water (yeah my bad, didn't have a TDS Meter before, didn't know how bad it was). Even though when I built the system, it was a predator tank to begin with until bad Squid killed my shark and eel:bawling:.

So Fast Forward to when I decided to get the system ready for coral, started doing RO/DI water changes and even bought a unit for it. Sadly my waters way to dirty and only get about 500g before the filters need changing, so cheaper to just buy the water. I was given a forest of Kenya trees and they thrived in my tank. I decided things are looking up, all params come back good (phos a bit on the high side, but I was told it was leeched in the rocks by now), so I try some Zoas.

I have had 1 aiptasia for about a month. Before I put in the Zoas, I pulled the rock and removed it. Even cut off a chunk from the rock where the base of the Aiptasia was. Within a week it was already growing back and with a vengeance! Then I took some lemon juice straight from the lemon tree/lemon. Injected it in the mouth and it "looked" like it died off. Less than a month, it was back, taunting me with its smug little fronds and mouth, and 4 new friends .

No way was I going to let this Aiptasia get the best of me. 2 years and none in my tank....1 bushel of Chaeto and I had the pest. So I spent half a day inside my tank injecting kalk paste on them to kill the 5 pests. Same response...they are worse than cockroaches:freak:! Those 5 have spread all over my tank. In my overflow, sump, rocks, eel caves and everywhere there's lower flow. My Foxface had a huge sting mark on him, my clown disappeared along with 6 chromies, Psychedelic Mandarin and my pair of Firefish:bawling:.

Well, Ive tried all the stuff. I even went as far as buying 25 Berghia Nudibranch and thinking....MUHAHAHA Dinner time!! Well I wasnt wrong, however it was the aiptasia who were eating:doh:! I sat and watched as 3 of the larger ones were pulled in and eaten by the aiptasia. Its been over a month and I havent seen a decrease in the pest pop nor have I seen any Berghia, so I fear they have succumbed to the evil parasites as well:cry:.

Well, here's just 1 show of what would happen if you left that 1 Aiptasia in your tank....or maybe decided to "kill" it and it bounces back and gets it's revenge.

*This rock had 1.....1 solo aiptasia on it and about 10 mushrooms with a feather duster. There are now 0 mushrooms, and 100000 aiptasia. The feather duster is still hanging in there though.

Next thing Im going to do is transfer everything from the DT to a 110g I've had sitting here for years empty. Just water and fish, no rocks no sand...just peace and quiet for my fish. Ill move the Kenya and maybe donate them to a fish store, keep the toadstool and hope the newly acquired hammer, mushrooms and GSP thrive in my 30 until I get the tank redone. Ill pull all the rock work out (with gloves) and burn it all....:flamethrower:. I will take much enjoyment out of this as well. In memory of all the fallen fishies:flageagle2:

My hopes is one day this wont be anyone else's story. If you find one you will pull that rock out, pack it up and send it off to places unknown!
