Ok guys, got a lot of algae in my 90 gal salt water coral tank with a 30 gal sump.. I'm not sure why but I'll list everything I know and maybe you guys can solve this riddle for me.
1. First of all it's red algae, brown algae and hair algae. (yuck)
2. Keep my lights on for 9 hours a day (to keep my corals alive.) My light is pretty low bulb LED not sure how many watts but it's 48 inches across and just keeps my corals alive (not really growing.)
3. I feed them once every 3 days with, prime reef flake food, (all red) Omega one super veggies and dried shrimp. I feed them frozen brine shrimp but the pack got frost bite 1 month ago and haven't used since.
4. I've tested the water for ammonia and it's 0. (then why is there algae if there's no ammonia?)
5. Filtration, I've got a skimmer and biological have have lots of rocks, Not sure what pounds but I also have those white cubes for extra help.
6. Ok, This is probably why I have algae I had a good amount of algae before I went on vocation (probably because I was feeding twice or everyday) and my Yellow Coris Wrasse died (it was pretty big) and three of my snails died (which was all of them) and now my clean up team is 3 hermit crabs. I got my tank from someone and they told me to get a whole bunch of snails and crabs and I never did so maybe that is my problem. I'm looking into a Lawn mower Blenny and 10 snails?
7. Most of my hard corals are dead or starting to die.
P.s tank inhabitants are - pajama cardnial small male percula clown fish smallish wrasse, 3 hermits and a Emerald Crab. And coral.
Those are all the things that could be my problem, didn't list all the things but there's a general idea. I'm not sure what all my parameters are but if there's no ammonia why is there algae? Anyways there's a general idea of what's going on. :help::help::help::help::help::help:
