This might be a weird question so let me know if I'm completely on the wrong track...
My previous tank was from a friend and only started off with a mini cycle after relocating so I'm yet to experience a full cycle of my own. My new tank arrives in about a month and I'd like to speed things along if possible - not because I'm impatient (maybe a little, but I know first hand that patience is the key in this hobby) but I just want to get my hands dirty while I wait.
My idea was to get hold of all my base rock and live rock for my new tank and cycle it in my old (currently empty 50g) tank. Would this be viable? Once cycled could I move the rock and some of the water into my new tank (88g) and top up with new saltwater when it's time to do a big water change? Once the rock is in that's when I would have planned to lay my sand and start up my skimmer etc.
Keen to hear your opinions! Thanks.
