can chalice grow over living montipora?

OK so what I am asking is this...,.. I have a 35 gallon LPs dominate reef tank and I have two orange plate monties taking over the upper part of my tank. So in short terms I need space for my chalice coral. Can I place my chalice on top of my Monti and will it grow?
