NOOOOO!! :(
so last night I was adding some new corals, and the foxface wasn't too happy that I was putting my hand in the tank. However, it then didn't care swimming all over, and I was scared of touching it. Anyways, once I was done, it hid between two tight rocks behind the coral. I thought "it's just hiding." Later I noticed it was moving oddly....when I looked from a side, I saw the Emerald Crab hanging tight to the tail of the Foxface!!...it was trying to escape, but it was hitting itself against the rocks badly. I couldn't get there without moving the rocks....well hands in avoiding to touch the spikes of the foxface. In efforts of trying to escape, it would give up at times, and fall back on its back (upside down). After moving the rocks, damaging a bit of the coral...I started bothering the crab, so it would let the fish go.....it finally did, but the foxface had so many scratches :(.
I woke up this morning and it was dead.... :( and the crab, snails, shrimp, etc were eating it. It died behind most of my rocks, and I'll need to move 50% of my rocks....I had not time this morning to do all this....so I'll do it as soon as I get home....my concerns are the following:
- Can ammonia spike too much in a few hours?
- How about the venom and the crab, snails, etc eating the fish?
- I'll do a water change right after to avoid ammonia spike, but the levels were at zero yesterday when it was tested at the store. Any other suggestions?
I had a cardinal die for no reason a while back, and in less than 24 hours, the crab, snails, etc ate it....it vanished. But this fish is bigger...
I am overly upset about this.....and yeah....life cycle, etc...but still.
