Classroom FOWLR tank over the summer

Hi all,

I have two saltwater tanks currently, my 30gallon at home and a 55 gallon FOWLR I keep in my 8th grade classroom. With summer coming up on us fast, I was wondering opinions on what to do with the 55 across the 3 month stretch.

Regardless of any decision, the livestock in the tank are being donated to a local fish store. The way school's are forced to buy at lowest bidder means that the school supplier of fish sends 11 stressed fish at once, and you have to get them in the tank in the middle of the day. Needless to say, only a few have made it through the year.

As for the tank itself, I have a cannister filter running on it, mostly for circulation. I currently have roughly 35lbs of liverock in the system, and a 3 inch sand bed as well. Across the summer stretch, am I better off letting the tank sit with minimal interaction?

Last year I emptied the tank and sand, and bleached the rocks because I had a nasty bit of cyano. This year the cyano cropped up again, but it has since died out completely so the tank looks pretty good. I'm thinking of taking all lights off the tank, running a filter with no floss for circulation, and leaving the tank running the entire summer. I can get in once every 2 weeks and add water as needed, but it would really be minimal interaction.

Am I better off cleaning this out and starting fresh next year, or leaving the tank to sit with circulation across the span?
