algea and other questions

So I have long hair algea issue. Levels are fine. I just recently found out my bulbs being older could cause this. That they need to be changed yearly? I've tried the sea hare slug, turbo snails, water changes, cut back on feeding feeding. I was recently looking into why I still have it and that's when the bulbs came up. I ran across people useing all kinds of stuff in their sumps, chillers, biopellets, calcium reactor, gfo reactor ect. Are those actually needed? Comments and criticism welcome. Lol
