Protein Skimmer Placement

So, I have a 20g sump with fugue with my 150g display tank. Currently the protein skimmer, an old Nautilus turbo with pump attached, sits in the fuge section of the skimmer. That means the overflow enters one end, flows into the fuge and then through a couple of dampers to the return pump. I want to increase the volume of the sump. To do that I am building a plexiglass box that I intend to move the skimmer and pump into. My question is: Would there be a preference or benefit to putting the box with skimmer at the front end with the overflow going into it, or put it at the other end with the pump remaining in the fugue and box draining into the return pump section. I do intend to upgrade the skimmer in the not to distant future to a newer one with the pump attached directly to the skimmer.:a16:
