hi all :)
I am new to Marine (been keeping tropical for over 8 years) and have a very wee 15L TMC Micro Habitat. It has been very hard work keeping my corals happy in there as it is such a small tank and 15L isn't enough to cope with any sudden changes. I am therefore using one of my tropical tanks (60L) to upgrade.
I will have to make all the back chambers out of black Perspex, which in itself is not a problem but I need some help with the filtration media I should stack in there.
Currently in my 15L I have skimmer and sponge filters. I have read lots about the sponge filters and know they are not ideal so I wash them in RO Water twice a week.
Do I need the sponge?
Can I use a skimmer and just life rock instead of the sponge filtration or will my water get cloudy?
I will be getting an Enheim 300 to pull the water though and also a small wave maker. I will have plenty of live rock in there.
My other question is the sand bed. Currently I have less than 1cm as I was told that you either go for 4" or virtually nothing. In my new tank I would like a deep sand bed but what are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
I thank anyone who can give me some feedback as I am a little lost!
