I need Reef Octopus bh100 Help

I bought a reef octopus bh1000 2 weeks ago. set it up and plumbed it no problem. my skimmer cup does not have the wavy line like I see most other people have. I have no clue where to set it at. this is my first salt water tank and my first skimmer. a couple of times I have had the foam head come up the tube, almost all the way to the top, but then it falls short. also iam getting brown/gren slime ON the bottom of my cup, not inside, but on the bottom.



The bypass hole or over flow hole from chamber to chamber, can I cover that with the skimmer cup? if so how much?



basically I cant figure how high or how low to set the cup. is there anyway someone can give me a bench mark of where to set the skimmer cup at?



lastly, the silencer cup. one nipple has a long tube in the scilencer and the other nipple just stops at the bottom of the cup, what one do I hook into?
