Bta and hermits

This is a shot in the dark, but is it possible that Hermit crabs would eat a bta's tentacles? The bta is small, about an inch and a quarter across. I've seen a few hermits around it from time to time. the bta's tentacles shrank and became stringy and have almost disappeared. Now they have started to grow back, short and stubby. Anyone else had this issue, or have any suggestions? Parameters sal. 1.023 cal 410 ph 8.0 to 8.2 mag 1300ppm temp 79 nitrate 5ppm or less
