Hey everyone, thanks again for having me! Here are the initial questions I have regarding my upcoming tank. I don't have all the particulars on it yet because it's still at his house, but I'm trying my best to prepare. I do know it's a drilled 90g rectangle tank, with about a 30 gallon or so sump. Basic lights and two power heads. No protein skimmer at this point, but he has one that may just need a new pump.
It's been "down" for about a year, but the tank still has water in it and always has. His rock was live, but I'm fairly certain it's all dead now. I believe I grasp the idea of making it live again, but in regards to it and the sand do I need to "clean" it in any way? My plan was to just rinse both the sand and the live rock since it was in a running tank, but essentially I'll be starting fresh. He also didn't have any disease that I'm aware of that killed everything. After he left his ex just let everything go (I know sad and pitiful).
I'm primarily interested in a fish only tank with maybe an anemone or so. I'm looking for low maintenance stuff and don't think I want to delve into corals of any kind and I'm not even sure about the anemones. I'm doing my research online and I bought "The New Marine Aquarium" book by Paletta which I'm happy with so far.
I plan to install a RO system so I'll have water readily available. I currently have a well, with a water softener and have a whole house filter with carbon cartridges, but I'd imagine a RO system is still best.
That's all I can think of for the moment, I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions soon enough. Thanks again.
