"back into the reef madness" 29 biocube questions

hello all,
after a hiatus of 6 or 7 years i m going to come back small this time. last time i had a drilled 180 and a 90 gallon sump tank. but the kids have gone off to college and are now graduated and starting their own families. the wife and i have started doing a bit move traveling. nothing special just related to my other hobbies, metal detecting, bottle digging beer can digging, firearms....you get the picture. we went for 2 weeks to Alaska to metal detect and dig old dumps in mining ghost towns,( did find a small glass bottle with 2.6 Grams of gold flake in one dump!) old military outposts etc. needless to say we would have been leashed because of our tanks at home.

so a picked up a oceanic 29 biocube off of craigslist for a song a couple weeks ago. and it starts again. i figured i would try a small reef for a change. i have ordered and received some of my supplies and equipment:
*160 gal reef crystals
*20 lbs live sand bahama oolite
*ordering 50 lb box totoka live rock from champion lighting for $239
* mj1200 upgrade return pump
*aquatic life 115 skimmer
*media basket and possibly the refugium basket
*2 hydor 425 circ pumps
*rapid led puck lighting kit with bluefish controller
*a RO/DI from the filter guys
* a mess o' loc line parts to split my return
*jager 125w 12" heater, questions to follow.

so half of it has arrived and i am now getting a good look at how this is going to come together. my first thing that i have an issue with is the heater. way too long for the compartment. what heater are y'all using?

and to clarify this. looking at the back of the tank. left compartment will be skimmer. center with be media basket and possibly a refugium basket. and right side will be return pump.

any tips or tricks that will make my life easier?

pics to follow when i start set up in a couple weeks.
