Simmer in my Refugium

All, i have a coralife 65g that i used on my 55gal as a HOB. I want to incorporate it into my 10gal refugium but im afraid that i don't have the room for it inside. The water level requirements make me wonder if this is going to work. i keep the 10g about half full in case of power outage, and the level (in the owner's manual) wants it almost at the top. I cannot afford another skimmer or to upgrade my 10gal yet (wife put the kabosh on more purchases till after xmas). The 65G can also be used in sump, but im worried about room.
