Interesting Tank

Thought i would share a story about a friend of mine's tank, i call it the miracle tank because all his fish are healthy seem happy. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks about it.

Alright, here it is, 125 gallon with 125 lbs of live rock, i would guess 2 1/2 inchs of sand. His equipment includes the following

1. Heater

2. Big Canister Filter (he runs carbon, bio balls, and sponges, basically the stuff it first comes with when you buy a canister filter)

3. Instant Ocean Sea-clone Protein Skimmer its the hang on the back model.

4. Standard light stand that sits on glass like mine if anyone's ever seen a picture of my tank but difference being i have a power Glo 18k 40 watt bulb

He has no power heads, what so ever, the only flow he gets is from his outtake on this filter and a little bit from the skimmer, he has no sump.

This is where it gets interesting, he doesn't do much tank maintenance, last time i went over to there house to visit i always check out there tank, him and his wife, haven't done a water change in probably a few months, they only replace the carbon and clean it twice a year in the filter. I was over there and i went ahead and did a water test for them, there salinity sits at 1.026, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, alk 12, nitrate 110 plus ppm. His nitrates are way to high, but all he has is fish, makes sense since its been so long since hes done a water change and hasn't clean his filter in a long time.

But this is his current tank and this is why i call it a miracle tank

1. Engineer Goby

2. Yellow Tang

3. 3 Striped Damsel

4. non reef safe wrasse (not sure of the name or type)

5. Trigger (which is small but i know they need a bigger tank)

6. Big eyed Squirrel Fish

7. He's about too add a princess parrotfish (which i believe also need a big tank)

Anyways his tank has been running for 4 years, hes has ich once when he first started his tank but other then that, hes has some of these fish for couple of years, it just surprises me how he gets away with no issues in his tank that i can tell just by looking at it, besides having a few fish in to small of a tank. But his fish seem healthy and happy, they all swim around like its just another day in the ocean.
