Okay so I was up at Gerbers yesterday, just looking around and I found John there. Long time since I saw the owner. We talked a bit and he asked how my tank is doing.
I mentioned the Asterina Starfish problem, and he suggested the Harlequin shrimp. I politely declined and explained their species-only diet is a bit too much to handle. I can't buy a Starfish every few weeks. Would wreck my budget.
But John explained a way to feed your Harlequin shrimp that I didn't know of. Gerbers Saltwater Wear house will sell damaged and dying Starfish for a humble five dollars specifically for these shrimp. He then went on to say I should freeze the Starfish, and break off a leg each week for a Harlequin Shrimp and it will last about a month.
I was surprised to hear this. It makes the idea of getting one of these shrimp tempting. Maybe I will?
But what do you all here on The Reef Tank say about this?
