Hey guys! First of all, you all have been tremendous and you rock. Thanks for all your opinions help. Here we go again. What do you guys do for Green Hair Algae? It's wanting to take over my tank.
I've tried the tooth brush method. I pull the rock out, scrub it with a tooth brush, it comes right back. The ONLY working solution I've found thus far is a giant turbo snail. I went to Petco and got 5 of them, 4 of them died(all small), 1 large one has survived and is a total lawn mower, but he can't do it alone. It's hard finding large Turbo Snails around here. I also have an emerald crab, and he's too small to make a dent in it. Several hermit crabs, they're mean though and I don't want too many of them, and I haven't noticed enough from them to make a difference.
I do not currently have a protein skimmer, because the one I bought second-hand broke in between transport due to my brother. It was an HOB Reef Octopus 1000. It was up and running when I bought it, just messed up somewhere in the transport. I am getting one on the 25th, when I have money to spend.
In the mean time I intend on doing a 50% water change using Kent Marine sea Salt. I'm going to buy a 20G long aquarium from Walmart for a sump, and just use no dividers to keep it simple. I was wondering if getting a Lawn Mower Blenny would benefit from having an actual lawn to mow in my sand bed? My tank is about 2 months old.
Edit: My water is a bit cloudy.. Should I use Chemi-Pure Elite? Would that help reduce nuisance algae? I have no problem adding chemicals at this point. When my Protein Skimmer is able to be installed with my sump, I'm sure the water wont be clear from the skimmer alone?
Thank you all.
