Well so far over the last 2 years in this hobby i have not ha a QT tank and and it has finally bitten me in the ass now that i have my 165g 6'x2'.
Take a look at the link below in my post if you want to see the build thread.
Anyhow. My Reef tank is not completely set up yet. I still need to add more lighting to the tank for my corals. I have a 30G 2'x2' tank that I was going to set up as a frag tank.
My current plan Option 1 for treating the Ich is to set up the 30G tank this week. Move all the corals and inverts out of my Display and QT the fish I my main Display tank for the next 10-12 weeks so I can do a copper based treatment, as I'm not sure if the strain I got is hypo-salinity resistant.
Fish live stock includes
Achilles Tang
Melanurus Wrasse
Flame Angel
Black Neon Dottyback
Lyretail Anthias x 5
Banggai Cardinalfish
Ocellaris Clownfish
Black Ocellaris Clownfish
I also have option 2 which consists of a 75G sump I have sitting outback that would need a good cleaning, and the dividers removed. I know that Copper kills inverts so I would literally need to do a 100% water change before I could put them back in the tank.
Option 2 takes up more space right now that I'm not sure I have so that's why I'm leaning towards option 1 but at the same time copper kills inverts so option 2...
Achilles Tang is the only fish showing symptoms so he was the first to get it. So much for the store having him for 2 months.... The other place I get fish from does a mandatory 2-4 week copper quarantine treatment so I don't think I got it from any of the other additions.
If you say option 2 what do I need in the 75G tank to keep the fish happy and alive during treatment.
Heater
Movement IE Hydor Koralia Water Pump
Air Stone
PVC hiding Spots.
Any point in keeping part of the 75G tank baffled and moving the skimmer to the QT and using a cobalt MJ1200 to pump water out of the compartment?
