Moved and have questions

I moved 2 weeks ago and I am getting ready to set my 125g tank set back up. When I moved I just stored the rock and sand in a trash can. I had a lot of issues with hair algae and red slime. Should I just clean the rock and rinse the sand or should I just pitch the sand and buy new? I just want to start this tank the right way this time. Any advice on what I should do would be great. Thanks
