The secret is to turn off power heads during feeding. Wait for the mandarin to hang out in a low flow area with course gravel and live rocks.
Dissolve bloodworms in some water and cut in 3rds or half to mimic the size of an amphipod. May mix with some dissolved mysis. Use syringe and or turkey baster and spray the mixture so it gets stuck between gravel and the crevices of live rock.
That did the trick for me. I no longer need to buy any amphipods/copepods or try to raise them. It took a while to train him, but now that he is trained, he has lived for the last several months on strictly frozen food and is doing great!
