So I'm a little torn on what I want to do for supplemental lighting for the new 300 dd
I have 3 400 watt reeflux 12k's in lumenbright 3 reflectors
Original plan was to use 3 of my 4 ai sols but since I just sold my current tank with the lights that won't be an option
Here's what I want out of my supplemental lighting...
1. First and formost...I want to be able to view the tank 10-12 hours a day and I'm thinking especially at first I will only be able to run the halides for 4-5 hours
2. I don't want just blue actinic as I like the color of my halides from what I can see so for(tank is not under them yet) point being I don't want to view the tank for 5-6 hours a day with just blue lights on
3. Obviously cost effective as possible...I'm getting to the point in the system that an extra 5-10 bucks a month on the electric bill isn't going to matter but initial cost is a factor too and long run cost effectiveness is important too
4. I'm not too concerned with whole tank coverage and coral "growth" from the supplements however I would like them to be enough to at least have the coral be "open" for viewing when the halides are off if that makes sense??
Here's some options I was thinking of...
1. I have an old crusty 48 inch 4 bulb t5 unit that works great but looks like hell but it's behind a wall so who cares...buy new ati bulbs...2 blue plus?? 2 actinic??
Probably the cheapest option
2. I purchased 2 60" ati blue plus t5's awhile back with aspirations of adding t5 supplement to the sols but that never happened...here's the deal tho I can not find a 60 inch retrofit t5 kit anywhere...the one I was looking at through aquacave(sunlight supply) is only available in 48 inch now soooo??? Yea
3. Get the 125 gallon "freshwater" retro kit from rapidled...it's roughly 500 bucks and has 3 20" heatsinks and would net me 16 leds per heatsink if I remember right..I can choose what color leds I want and if this turns out to be the best option could use some help on color choice
Definitely the most expensive initial cost
The lights will be mounted under and in front of the halides...ill post pics so you can see the location..
Get you thinkin caps on please!!! Haha
Thanks
Stewie
